About Me

Syd received a Master's Degree in Agency Counseling from Appalachian State University in 1990. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor in North Carolina (LPC #2440) and has served as an Approved Clinical Supervisor by the NCBLPC. Syd takes an "experiential” as well as educational approach to his work with people. This means that he often focuses on the quality of the relationship between counselor and client during sessions as an example of how relationships may be for you in the "real" world. This gives a chance to examine both what works well for you, what does not, and what personal strengths are available to you. It also provides a way to "try on" different solutions to situations which are difficult for you. Individualized treatment plans are integrative and solution focused, often combining classical psychotherapy with alternative and complimentary healing approaches. Syd has a special professional interest in relationship counseling, parent-child and general family functioning and enrichment, and optimal adjustments to major life events.

Syd has particular experience working with marriage and family issues, anger management and impulse control, Attention Deficit Disorders, depression and anxiety problems in children and adults, relationship enrichment, Personal Success and Acceptance, Asperger's Syndrom, motivation, Single's Coaching, and helping individuals, couples, and families with issues related to separation and divorce.
